Stuff: ‘Auckland’s Ardmore Airport redesigns expansion to save native tree grove’

South Auckland’s Ardmore Airport has reorganised a massive expansion around a grove of native trees rather than pulling them down.

The grove of some 60 kahikatea trees was due to be removed in November 2021 when activist group Mana Rākau got involved.

In response, airport chief executive officer Dave Marcellus agreed to halt felling and to take another look at the plans.

Now, the airport’s plans to build an industrial park for businesses incorporates the grove into the space.
